Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions apply to any work done on behalf of the client by me (Alisha Jones-Platt of The Cat and the Comma Editing).
General
1. I will provide the editorial services for the work you send me in the time period agreed upon via email.
2. You can use the contact form to initiate contact with me, all communications with me thereafter will be via email.
3. Communication between me and you will be exclusively through my website (www.thecatandthecommaediting.co.uk) or email (thecatandthecomma@gmail.com) unless otherwise agreed via email.
4. I reserve the right to not accept work offered by you.
5. You will not send any illegal content to me.
Fees and Quotations
1. For documents exceeding 5000 words, I will provide you with a quotation once I have evaluated a representative sample of your document, discussed with you what you require of me, and considered the necessary time frame to complete the editing process on your document.
2. For documents less than 5000 words, I will provide you with a quotation after evaluating the document in full and discussing your requirements with you.
3. The manner in which payment is negotiated will be either per 1000 words or per hour as determined by me.
4. The fee is non-negotiable once it has been agreed by you and me via email.
5. In the event that the nature of the work changes (e.g. you increase the word count or request more services), a new fee and completion date will be negotiated via email.
6. You will pay any additional expenses that may be incurred as a result of my work for you as negotiated via email.
7. You are required to pay me in full within seven days of receipt of the invoice and edited document that I have sent to you.
CancellatioN
1. In the event of a serious breach of terms I reserve the right to cancel any contract between you and me.
2. You may cancel our contract at any time by informing me via email. This cancellation is valid after I inform you via email that I have received your desire to cancel our contract.
3. If you cancel our contract either once I have started editorial work on your documents or in less than one month before my editorial work is due to begin, I reserve the right to charge 100% of the agreed fee.
4. I may cancel our contract at any time by informing you via email. If you are not at fault for this cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
Confidentiality
1. I will keep the nature and content of any documents you send to me confidential. Your work will only be shared with a third party if you have given written permission.
2. Under the terms of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, I may keep records of any necessary information.
Copyright
1. All content that you send to me is owned by you.
2. Once you have paid my fee and received your edited document all content I have included in my editing of your work will become owned by you.
3. You agree that I am in no way to be held accountable for any claims of copyright infringement against you.
Acknowledgement
1. You are under no obligation to mention me in the acknowledgements section of your work.
2. If you do wish to include me in an acknowledgements section of your work you agree that I have the right to review any material relating to me prior to publication and decline to be mentioned.
Use of AI
1. I primarily edit in Microsoft Word and may use the automatic spell-checker function.
2. I will use no other AI function in MS Word including, but not limited to: Copilot, grammar checkers, editor.
3. I will use no other AI functions in Adobe PDF
4. I may use Google to fact check. Google uses AI to match searches with results.
